What’s Contained Within:

Training: Polyvagal Theory

With Deb Dana (£99 Value)

Please see the video below for a short sample of what to expect in this module

We’ll join Deb Dana, a licensed clinical social worker, by exploring the nervous system as a means of healing trauma.

At a high level, the aim of polyvagal theory in therapy is to create a “feeling safe enough to fall in love with life and take the risks of living.” By understanding the disruption of connection within the nervous system, we can empower clients to become active operators of their autonomic system.

There are 3 primary and inter-related principles of polyvagal theory, related to our 3-part series:

  • Neuroception → How the nervous system takes in information. (30 mins, 15 secs)
  • Hierarchy → The 3 basic building blocks of the Nervous System - Ventral vagal, sympathetic and dorsal vagal systems. (34 mins, 44 secs)
  • Co-regulation → The biological imperative to be safe with others. (31 mins, 23 secs)

The demonstration and application with Deb runs for 47 minutes, and 4 seconds.

Training: Internal Family Systems Psychotherapy

With Dr Richard Schwartz (£99 Value)

Please see the video below for a short sample of what to expect in this module

We’ll join Internal Family Systems (IFS) psychotherapy founder Dr Richard Schwartz, as he reveals the foundations of IFS. You’ll discover the existence of a client’s internal “parts” that tend towards intensifying traumatic experiences…

You’ll learn how these “parts” form and flow – from valuable states to extreme roles, with the multiple personalities that make up a person.

Here’s what you’ll discover in this module..

  • Lecture 1 → An introduction to the core concepts of the IFS Model. Learn how this innovative framework helps us understand people’s minds and the impact of trauma on this inner system. Uncover where (and why) extreme states show up, in contrast to the stated valuable ideal states. Lecture 1 includes an experiential exercise to give you a more personal insight into the iFS model. (30 mins, 24 secs)
  • Lecture 2 → Discovering the “Self” - a central, organising component differing from parts. Apply this with the 8 C’s of Self Leadership (curiosity, calm, confidence, courage, clarity, creativity, connectedness, and compassion), and watch how the Self can teach parts to heal. (29 mins, 33 secs)
  • Lecture 3 → Here, you’ll learn how to help clients liberate their parts, and begin to develop a deep trust with their “Self”. Ultimately this leads to a greater integration of ‘parts’, and greater Self leadership in both the inner and outer life of the individual. (27 mins, 44 secs)

Our demonstration and application with Richard runs for 44 minutes, and 5 seconds.

Training: Somatic Experiencing Therapy

With Giselle Genillard (£99 Value)

We’ll join Giselle Genillard, by exploring the multi-layered elements of trauma stored within the body. Somatic experiencing helps clients build an increased sense of awareness to their internal experience (interoceptive, proprioceptive, and kinesthetic sensations).

Because trauma can diminish life experiences, we gradually increase the resilience clients feel when dealing with their experiences, and approaching the future. Here’s how…

  • Lecture 1 → Nervous System and Self-Healing → Here, you’ll learn how to help clients “shift to the resource,” move away from the “language of the reptilian brain,” and shift from threat fixations in the body to flow. (29 mins, 27 secs)
  • Lecture 2 → Trauma Events → Part 2 addresses the imprint of the trauma in the body and mind, and how to help clients ‘step outside’ of it. We explore the principles of grounding, orienting and pendulation to create a settling response to any triggers. (23 mins, 28 secs)
  • Lecture 3 → Undischarged Survival Energy → Learn about SIBAM (sensation, image, behaviours, affect, meaning), and how this is used to create relief in a live, or re-lived traumatic state. (35 mins, 35 secs)

Our demonstration and application with Giselle runs for 31 minutes, and 6 seconds.

Training: Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Therapy

With Tony Buckley (£99 Value)

We’ll join Tony Buckley who highlights how the body’s experiences of trauma can be a primary entry point for treating a client’s issues.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is an experiential therapy, as opposed to cognitive therapy. This means that SP emphasises tuning into the body’s experience… rather than just focusing on the traumatic event in isolation.

As trauma is frequently stored in the body, we create interventions that target the neurobiological and physical, as opposed to more traditional cognitive approaches. Here’s how we’ll do this…

  • Lecture 1 → 5 Stage Processing → Learn how to understand clients’ procedural and learned responses, and how to disrupt them with the 5 phases to SP, alongside a practical demonstration. (31 mins, 31 secs)
  • Lecture 2 → Treatment → Here, we look at dispersal and how the body reacts to each and every traumatic event. We take this journey and learn how SP helps clients move from stages of helplessness and hopelessness, to empowerment. (37 mins, 24 secs)
  • Lecture 3 → Integration → In lecture 3, Tony explores 'Integration'. This is where the body begins to experience states such as pleasure, confidence and relief in relation to the traumatic memory. (19 mins, 7 secs)

Our demonstration and application with Tony runs for 21 minutes, and 52 seconds.

Training: EMDR Psychotherapy

With Dr Stephen Dansiger (£99 Value)

We’ll join Dr Stephen Dansiger in pursuing trauma recovery through Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing Psychotherapy (EMDR). The big movement we’ll make here is from trauma informed care, to trauma focused care.

This series is a particular study on the pre and post covid world… alongside a deep dive into traumatic events and how they are ‘stored’.

  • Lecture 1 → Trauma Today → We explore the past and future effects of trauma, based on the world as it currently is. We’ll look at trauma through the healing aspects of EMDR psychotherapy, and the power of mindfulness-based approaches in trauma work. (35 mins, 13 secs)
  • Lecture 2 → Mindfulness → Here, we approach EMDR through Adaptive Information Processing (AIP), and wrap up with the five hindrances to change. The focus is on creating progressive trauma recovery against inertia and obstacles. (39 mins, 10 secs)
  • Lecture 3 → Deep Mechanics of EMDR → We’ll explore the tri-phasic modes of trauma treatment, AIP and applications, and the 8 phase protocol of using EMDR in practice, specifically…

History/Treatment Plan → Prep → Assessment → Desensitisation → Installation → Body Scan → Closure → Re-evaluation. (33 mins, 47 secs)

Our demonstration and application with Stephen runs for 58 minutes, and 1 second.

Training: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

With Dr Robyn Walser (£99 Value)

Please see the video below for a short sample of what to expect in this module

We’ll join Dr Robyn Walser as we look at healing trauma through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

This works through 3 pillars: Open → Aware → Engage… which removes a fear of the future based on events of the past.

This is achieved through the 6 mini-interventions of psychological flexibility, including: Present moment, defusion, acceptance, self-as-context, values and committed action. Here’s how Robyn helps us achieve this…

  • Lecture 1 → Openness → Creation of experiential contact with prior events, reshift to powerful life choices, and a deep dive into relational frame theory. (39 mins, 24 secs)
  • Lecture 2 → Awareness → Moving into the tender topic of exposure and surfacing the traumatic event, then applying new learning in its place, and using the pillars of “Present Moment” and “Self-As-Context” to aid the client’s progress. (25 mins, 47 secs)
  • Lecture 3 → Engagement → Our aim is to move a client into a connected space relative to their future needs. That’s why we’ll deep dive into the application of “Values” and “Committed Action” to move them here. (22 mins, 49 secs)

Our demonstration and application with Robyn runs for 38 minutes, and 17 seconds.

Training: Compassion Based Therapy

With Deborah Lee (£99 Value)

We’ll join Deborah Lee, a consultant clinical psychologist, head of a national treatment center for PTSD in the UK, and senior lecturer in clinical psychology at UCL.

We’ll deep dive into the connection between shame and criticism, which CBT can often fall short on soothing for particular clients.

By looking at the rational and emotional brain, we’re capable of splitting needs aside, and creating a soothing and positive emotional response for reactions to traumatic events and experiences. Here’s how we’ll do this…

  • Lecture 1 → Deep dive into the interaction of traumatic events, inner critics, shame cycles, and stored memories. (30 mins, 24 secs)
  • Lecture 2 → Creating a window of tolerance as a recovery process for trauma, dialing down internal threats, and processes for positive behaviours. (30 mins, 24 secs)
  • Lecture 3 → The 3 phases of compassion therapy: 1. Developing Stabilisation. 2. Tending to the trauma story. 3. Building life after trauma. (30 mins, 24 secs)

Our demonstration and application with Debroah runs for 34 minutes, and 23 seconds.

So there’s…

Two Paths to Humanising Trauma From Here

If all we have is a hammer, and everything looks like a nail… then there are a lot of things we’re not going to be able to fix.

Sadly the more we learn about trauma and its manifestation in the body and mind… the more we realise differing approaches are required.

We need approaches that suit the individual, at that time, with their needs, in ways that progress them forward.

Remember that trauma can be both in the body and the mind at one time from any or one or multiple events. And a multifaceted approach will be needed to meet the client when they’re ready.

That’s why we believe that practitioners who lead the growth of trauma awareness and healing will be armed with as many tools and methods to treat clients as possible.

It’s also why we’ve gone to these lengths to facilitate these leaders and experts within The Accreditation Package here.

So here’s to those who lead from the front.
