Whether we want to give up smoking, start exercising, or commit to a new behaviour, often we find our best efforts fall to the wayside, and after a few weeks we’re right back where we started.
Could it be that we’re all just lazy and irresponsible? Or might it be that most of us don’t understand how our brains really work and the actual science of changing habits?
In this episode, Shahroo Izadi – a Behaviour Change Specialist from the Amy Winehouse Foundation, shares what she has learned from her extensive experience working in the field of addiction therapy, to show how you can use evidence based techniques to make habit changes that actually last.
Having worked in various capacities across substance misuse treatment, she is now dedicated to sharing the evidence-based techniques used in addiction treatment with those who want to learn how to change a range of day-to-day behaviours – on their own terms.
She is passionate about showing the general population what those in long-term recovery from addictions can teach us about resilience, self-awareness and motivation.
As well as running a private practice, Shahroo is a consultant with leading health and social care company Emerging Horizons and provides relapse management services for The Amy Winehouse Foundation. Her work has most recently drawn attention from BBC Radio 1, Red Magazine, Psychologies Magazine, The Telegraph and The Pool.
